People go on vacations for many different reasons. Sometimes it is so mom and dad can get some time together alone and sometimes it is to spend time together as a family. There is a lot to do at Grand Superior Lodge that is fun for the whole family. But, if you brought young children, you may not all be able to go on every adventure together. Fortunately there are activities that work for adults and kids separately as well as for the whole group.
Things you can all do together
Enjoy the indoor pool
Grand Superior Lodge has a nice indoor pool which can be used in all seasons. With proper supervision, you can enjoy the pool with the whole family. From the warm indoor pool, you can all look out the window at the cold Lake Superior. You can see passing ships, large waves and ice and snow during the winter.
At Amicus Sailing, down in Knife River, Mark will take you on a sailboat tour while you get to try your hand at controlling the boat yourself. Amicus encourages the whole family to come along and act as his crew for a couple hours.
Walk by the lake
You may have to hold your little ones’ on your back, but you will all enjoy walking right next to the lake behind Grand Superior Lodge. If you’re getting tired of carrying the kids, drive somewhere to explore a different part of the lake.
Look at waterfalls
Gooseberry Falls is right next to Grand Superior Lodge and offers an easy way for the entire family to see a magnificent set of waterfalls. Other waterfalls in nearby state parks are a little more of a challenge to reach, especially with a young child. However, they are worth the effort and sometimes you can see a lot just by going partway along a rapid river.
Drive around and enjoy the view
This is the way to take in as much of this area’s scenery as you can in a short time. Anywhere up and down the shore, is great for seeing Lake Superior on one side, and the mountains on the other. If you drive inland, you can see the inland lakes and look down on the lake from the mountains.
Activities mostly for adults
Enjoy the hot tub, sauna, and workout room
Talk about relaxing—work your legs and then enjoy a refreshing soak or sauna afterwards.
Kayaking on Lake Superior is awesome, but things like tipping have been known to occur, which kids probably wouldn’t enjoy. Maybe take turns kayaking and let your little ones watch from the shore with the other parent.
Snowshoeing and Skiing
Fairly young kids have done these activities but skiing especially is somewhat technical. You will have to decide when your child is considered a “young child” when it comes to these winter activities.
Activities mostly for kids
Playing kids games
Some of the games at Grand Superior Lodge are geared more towards children and you’ll know they’re in a safe place while you have a drink at the bar.
Go to daycare
Sometimes daycare is a good option, when a couple needs to go on some adventure, where it wouldn’t be good to bring a young kid along. Fortunately there are a number of providers in nearby Two Harbors to choose from. Call around and find one that is a good fit for your child, while you and your spouse are checking something off of your bucket list. Sittercity is a good resource for daycare and babysitters.
