Late August is the best time to visit Lake Superior. Gorgeous weather, fewer people, and tons of activities. To help “paint the picture” of what your stay could look like, we’ve put together a little narative with some sample itineraries to get your imagination going! Give us a call to book your August getaway!
You roll over in the soft sheets to see your husband’s eyes fluttering open, it’s surprisingly already 7am, two hours past your normal wake up time. But today is no normal day, you are on vacation on the North Shore. So you and your husband hop out of bed, make a cup of coffee and take in the views of Lake Superior.
Heading down to Splashing Rock Restaurant for breakfast is the next thing to do, you’re both famished. Your husband chooses French toast, lodge-baked wild rice baguette slices dipped in cinnamon, buttermilk and egg batter and pan-fried golden brown with fresh whipped cream while you choose a delicious omelet.

After breakfast, you grab a pair of Adirondack chairs and pick up your book. This just happens to be the book you’ve been trying to finish for months now. As pages are furiously being turned, deer emerge from the woods. You sit up and watch as the deer graze in the grass. As they disappear back into the woods a big ship appears on the horizon. The two of you watch it from a small spec in the distance to its massive form right in front of the resort then as it continues on its way to port. More ship come and go, and you don’t waver from your front row spot on the shoreline.
The sun is at it’s peak for the day meaning it’s noon, time for lunch. Walking into the dining room, the wait staff all have smiles on their faces as they seat you, quickly bringing iced waters to the table. As you finish your lunch, your husband let’s you in on a little secret… he secretly booked a massage just for you. Completely shocked you head to the massage room with an extra pep in your step. The last time you treated yourself was so long ago, you can’t even remember.
Leaving the massage room you feel completely relaxed, your body feels reinvigorated. Your husband isn’t in the room, but he’s left a note. Quickly you throw on your bathing suite then head to the pool. Your husband awaits relaxing in the hot tub, waiting for you.
It’s that time of night again, dinner time, but you haven’t been stressing about what to make or slaving over a hot stove, oh the joys of vacation! Once again, you head to Splashing Rock Restaurant for dinner, not only has there been delicious food but the staff has been so friendly. Just like breakfast and lunch, dinner was no exception as the food and staff were amazing. Today has been no normal day, so you decide to break your no-sweets-past-dinner rule for Betty’s Pies. The drive to Betty’s was quick and easy, and after first bite into the classic apple pie you are beyond happy you broke rule because this pie is so worth it. You quickly finish your slice and head back to the resort. Tucked under the covers you share the best moments of the day with one another then drift to sleep. What a day.
