Mountain Bike at the State Parks
The two state parks closest to Grand Superior have excellent hard-packed mountain bike trails plus amenities to enhance your ride; restrooms, drinking water, visitor centers, gift shops and exhibits.
Gooseberry Falls State Park
Eight miles of trails start on the north side of the highway and criss-cross the wooded terrain of a large section of the park. Start on the west side of the river for a quick uphill ride to Gooseberry River, cross and decide to continue riding somewhat parallel to the river or head inland, choosing the hillier southern trails that offer two scenic overlooks.
Split Rock Lighthouse State Park
Six miles of trails start in the park and travel west, skirting the shoreline, and around the base of Day Hill, where you should hop off your bikes and hike the spur trail to the overlook at the top! From here you can follow Split Rock Creek north, crossing Highway 61 and ride a 1.5-2 mile loop, or continue exploring the woodlands adjacent to the shoreline.
Sonju Trail - Short, Paved & in Two Harbors
The Sonju Trail is a paved lakeshore there-and-back path starting at Burlington Bay near the campground and leading to Two Harbor's waterfront. Total is 2-miles + a ride through town for ice cream!
