Artisan Fall Harvest Festival

Sept. 20-23rd (Mon-Thurs)

Artists, painters, jewelers, photographers, potters, writers, wineries, breweries, and great dining are all part of the First Annual Fall Harvest Festival at Grand Superior Lodge. Come and celebrate locally produced goods and the fall colors along the North Shore of Lake Superior!

There will be a smoked salmon contest, grape stomping, live music and a special restaurant menu in Splashing Rock Restaurant featuring locally inspired courses and wine, beer and spirits tasting throughout the event.

Grape Stomping!

The day will begin with approximately 15 pounds of Frontenac or Blue Belle Grapes put inside a barrel big enough for two stompers. Each stomping session will last up to 15 minutes, and start with an additional 10 pounds of grapes. Over the course of three days, we expect about 300 pounds of grapes will be stomped into juice and pulp.

By the way, if 15 minutes doesn’t sound like a long time, just wait till you try it! Most stompers have had enough after just five to ten minutes.

And of course you want to know if the juice is actually turned into wine…the answer is no, not the juice, however the pulp is used!
