North Shore Minnesota Snowmobiling

Winter is ideal for exploring miles of back woods, river valleys, ridges and overlooks on the miles of excellent snowmobile trails near Grand Superior Lodge. The big trail is the North Shore State Trail, running parallel to Lake Superior from Duluth to Grand Marais, with lots of access points along the way. Two of the main access trails are right in Two Harbors and at Gooseberry Falls State Park. Other great rides that also lead to the state trail are the Red Dot, Moose Walk and Sawtooth Trails traversing the forests from Beaver Bay through Silver Bay and Tettegouche State Park inland to the tiny town of Finland.

Grand Superior Lodge offers its guests direct access to the trail, park your trailer once and your good to go. There is also gas available right across the highway for easy fill-ups on your way out or upon your return.

Nearby North Shore State Trail Access Points

  • Access the trail via the Two Harbors Corridor Trail or trailer 8.5 miles north of Highway 61 on County Road 2 in Two Harbors.
  • Take the Gooseberry Falls State Park trail
  • Ride the Red Dot Trail from Highway 61 in Beaver Bay or on Outer Drive (north off Hwy 61) in Silver Bay
  • From Hwy 61 in Illgen City, drive north on MN Hwy 1 to Finland, then east on County Road 7 about 1-1/2 miles.

Two Harbors Corridor Trail

Length :: 9.6 miles
Connects to :: North Shore State Trail
Trail heads north from Two Harbors, then angles west, intersecting the state trail. From here, ride the state trail for miles in either direction; about 11 miles to the southwest, you can pick up the 45-mile Pequaywan Trail, while about 10 miles northeast, you can pick up the 49-mile Yukon Trail.

Gooseberry Falls State Park Trail

Length :: 3 - 9 miles
Connects to :: North Shore State Trail via the Access Trail
From the old Interpretive Center on the east side of the river, this trail climbs the ridge for three miles, leaves the park and connects with-the six mile North Shore Access Trail.

Red Dot Trail

Length :: 15 miles
Connects to :: North Shore State Trail, Moose Walk Trails & Tettegouche State Park Trails
The Red Dot loops through Beaver Bay and Silver Bay providing the option of heading north to the North Shore State Trail and Moose Walk Trails or east into Tettegouche State Park.

Tettegouche State Park & Sawtooth Trails

Length :: 10 and 15 miles
Connects to :: North Shore State Trail, Moose Walk, Red Dot Trails & Sawtooth Trail
Both trails explore the backwoods of the State Park crossing Palisade Creek and featuring a scenic overlook of Palisade Valley and offer several loop options as they intersect with other trails in several places.

Moose Walk Trail

Length :: 15 miles
Connects to :: North Shore State Trail 
This trail is a large loop, which runs in part, along the East Branch Beaver River then rises to a scenic overlook near Hockamin Creek before rejoining the North Shore State Trail.
