George Crosby Manitou State Park

Looking for some wilderness not too far from the comforts of Grand Superior Lodge? Drive 30 miles northeast up Highway 61 and then inland 7 miles along MN Highway 1, and 7 miles along County Road 7 to Crosby Manitou, the only inland state park on the shore. Its mildly out-of-the-way location makes for an ideal quiet day of exploring, listening to and spotting birds and wildlife, and hiking through some glorious forests.

Features
Benson Lake Picnic Area
Some of the easiest hiking in the park! A quarter-mile in from the parking area is a lovely little picnic area set on the shores of the ever-so-small Benson Lake. How small is the lake? Well, the total loop in from the parking area, past the picnic sites and around the lake is one mile.

Cascades on the Manitou River
You will be nicely rewarded for your one-and-a-quarter mile hike up the Middle Trail to the rushing cascades of hte Manitou river. Turn around and return the same way or, pick up the rolling, 1.6 mile Hogback Trail back to the trailhead.

River & Forest Hiking Trails
The Manitou River Valley is deep, making for some hilly trails. One option is to head south, picking up the Cedar Ridge Trail, which parallels the river, then head down to the river and return north right along the Manitou.
